Kuala Lumpur (AsiaNews) - To teach respect for nature starting from the principles of Islam. This is the aim of a project launched by WWF Malaysia in cooperation with the Islamic University College (Iicu). The two institutions have financed the creation of an animated series called: "When we are friends of nature", which aims to teach children the basic principles of environmental protection.

The first series, which was launched under the title "Islam, the conservation of wildlife and you", is about the adventures of four friends who discover the secrets of the nature and their role in protecting it as a gift to humanity.

The cartoon is based on a book published by the Malaysian Institute for Understanding Islam (Ikim). This is the first book published in Malaysia with the theme of environmental protection based on Islamic principles and is designed for educators in areas with a Muslim majority.

Executive Director of WWF Malaysia, Dionysius Sharma, emphasized the importance of this initiative directed to the younger generation: "We hope that these early lessons, which are derived from the essence of various faiths, help them to consider the preservation of the environment from a wider perspective, so that it becomes an important part of the community".
