Beijing (AsiaNew / Agencies) - The super typhoon Mangkhut has not spared China: four people lost their lives, after the most powerful tropical storm of the year hit the south of the country, reports the local government.
The four victims were in the Guangdong province, where yesterday the typhoon hit hardest. Three people were crushed by fallen trees in Guangzhou, while the fourth lost their lives under a collapsed structure in the city of Dongguan. In the evening, Mangkhut moved to Guangxi province. Here, local meteorologists warn that there is still a risk of flooding and avalanches.
The authorities were prepared for the typhoon that has been devastating the region for days: more than three million people were evacuated for security reasons, and in some areas the largest trees were felled to avoid falling in the storm. The citizens had been warned not to leave their homes and to stay away from the windows, to avoid being hit by debris carried by the wind.
