Sr Prema: Mother Teresa, chosen by Jesus to spread his love (video)
by suor Mary Prema*

Today is the liturgical memorial of the foundress of the Missionaries of Charity. The superior general issued a message at the end of the solemn Mass in Kolkata. Mother Teresa’s vocation “was firmly grounded in her conviction that she belongs to Jesus and that nothing and nobody could separate her from Him."

Kolkata (AsiaNews) – Jesus chose "our Mother and He sent her to walk the streets of Kolkata and of the world to do His work of love and compassion for the poorest of the poor," writes Sr Mary Prema, Superior General of the Missionaries of Charity, on the feast day of Mother Teresa.

At the end of a solemn Mass celebrated this morning by the Archbishop of Kolkata, Sr Prema read a message on the Mother’s tomb. Here’s the text:

God loved the world so much, that He gave His only Son, so that all who believe in Him may not be lost, but may have Eternal Life.

Jesus came into the world to bring Good News to the poor:

- to heal the broken hearted

- to set captives free

- to give new sight to the blind

- to lift up the down trodden

And to proclaim the Lord’s year of favour

He came to seek what is lost and to them.

Jesus chose our Mother and He sent her to walk the streets of Kolkata and of the world to do His work of love and compassion for the poorest of the poor.

Mother’s Call was firmly grounded in her conviction that she belongs to Jesus and that nothing and nobody could separate her from Him. She loved Jesus, with an undivided heart in faithfulness and loyalty. She cherished the freedom of being poor and simple and she surrendered herself totally to God through obedience.

She claimed that the work we do is nothing more than a means to put the love we have for Jesus into a concrete action.

Jesus was everything to her and she knew that without Him she could do nothing.

She wanted only:

- to live the life of Jesus

- to radiate His Light

- to share His Joy

- and to be a channel of His peace to every heart.

Today Mother, we ask you to give us a double share of the love you have for Jesus, that we may serve the poor and give them hope and consolation through our humble works of love for them.

Our Mother, pray for us.
