German intelligence: Huawei can't be trusted

For the head of the Federal Intelligence Service, there can be no trust in a company that "has very high levels of dependence on the Communist Party and the country's intelligence". Merkel in search of a middle ground. Huawei rejects the accusations of "mistrust".

Berlin (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The head of German intelligence, Bruno Khal, said that the Chinese company Huawei "cannot be completely trusted ".

Speaking yesterday to a group of parliamentarians who verify the work of the Federal Intelligence Service in Germany, he said: "There is no trust in a state company that has very high levels of dependence on the Communist Party and the country's intelligence".

Huawei, China's most powerful computer technology company, has long been the target of many governments - particularly the US - for its ties with the Chinese army and its dependence on the Beijing government, which forces companies to communicate from the State sensitive data for its security.

For this reason, the United States has put a stop to the use of Huawei's projects in the US, risking to fall behind in the development of 5G systems, which are a primary product of the Chinese company.

Chancellor Angela Merkel – contrary to US advise - has not banned collaboration with Huawei, being pressed by the German industries that want to experiment with the new fields of technological information.

In any case, Bruno Khal stated that Berlin has not yet made a final decision. His government is trying to work with Huawei, preparing tools that ensure that they do not become prey to Chinese espionage.

Huawei, for its part, has denied being employed by any government and that the "mistrust" against it has no basis, given that it serves 3 billion people worldwide.
