Coronavirus: the lowest number of deaths in a month

Health authorities believe the epidemic is coming under control. The majority of the newly infected are registered in Hubei, which remains isolated. Other provinces are returning to normal life. The virus spreads to the rest of the world. The first case in the USA.

Beijing (AsiaNews / Agencies) - 29 coronavirus deaths were reported yesterday in China: the lowest figure in a month. Although there are still new infections, national health authorities believe the epidemic is coming under control.

Until yesterday evening, China had confirmed 2747 deaths and 78630 infected. The number of new daily infected has also dropped: yesterday they were 440; 32531 recovered. Out of 43,258 hospitalized patients, 19% are in serious condition (8346 cases).

Almost all of the new cases of infection are concentrated - except 24 - in Hubei, the epicenter of the epidemic. This province still remains isolated, but other regions of China tend to return to normal life. However, schools and universities remain closed and the government has officially declared that the two major political events are postponed: the National People's Assembly (the Chinese Parliament), and the People's Political Consultative Conference, which are traditionally held at the beginning of March.

While the situation in China seems to stabilize, the epidemic appears to be spreading elsewhere. Since yesterday, the daily increase in the number of infected in the rest of the world has been greater than in China, exceeding the quota of 500 positive cases per day. Iran, South Korea, Italy and Japan are among the hardest hit countries. A first case has also been discovered in the United States.
