Bhilwara (AsiaNews) - A migrant worker who returned to his village was forced to spend the 14 days of quarantine on a "machaan", a hut built on a tree.

Kamlesh Meena, 25, hit by the "lockdown", walked 200 km from the Ajmer district, where he worked, to his village of Sherpura in the district of Bhilwara (Rajasthan).

The villagers, for fear that he had contracted Covid-19, stopped him and subjected him to a medical examination. Health workers asked him to spend 14 days in quarantine at a center in Bhilwara.

Instead the villagers and Meena's family built a "machaan" (little more than a platform) for him with bamboo wood on a tree (see photo). Throughout the period, his father Sagarmal brought him food, water and other things every day for his essential needs. With the high temperatures this season in Rajasthan, it is not easy to be outdoors. But the young man managed to survive thanks to everyone's help.

Kamlesh has now completed quarantine. The doctors visited him every day and after 14 days they determined that he was no longer Covid-19 positive, allowing Kamlesh to return to his family.

To date, Bhilwara has recorded 37 positive cases, with two deaths. Of these, 24 have recovered and only 4 active cases remain. Rajasthan has so far reported 3099 cases with 82 deaths.

There is high attention in the country to curb the spread of the infection with temperature measurements and tests.

The fear of being infected is also widespread among the population. Recently, in Tamil Nadu, an angry crowd blocked the burial of a doctor who died of Covid-19. The crowd attacked the ambulance carrying the coffin and beat the deceased's medical staff and relatives. The victim's relatives had to secretly bury the doctor at night. But at least 40 residents of the area gathered in protest and shouted slogans at them.
