Yesterday’s demonstrations took in Yangon, with a march before dawn, which then dissolved immediately upon the arrival of the soldiers.

Yesterday morning, in Wetlet (Sagaing), the security forces charged a crowd that was preparing to march. At first they fired rubber bullets, but as people did not disperse, the soldiers began firing lethal bullets. According to local sources, three people aged 22, 24 and 42 were killed.

In the north of Shan State, around 9 am, there were demonstrations in Hsipaw and Nawnghkio. In Hsipaw, a 20-year-old young man was killed and at least 10 people were arrested.

In Nawnghkio, the army fired on a march and a man in his 40s was killed.

Around noon, the Mya Taung protest column, often targeted by the junta, gathered in Chanayethazan (Mandalay). The column includes dozens of motorcyclists and hundreds of protesters. The soldiers arrived in five vans and made four arrests. They also confiscated seven motorcycles.

In the afternoon there was a protest march in Hpakant (Kachin state), which the army dispersed with deadly explosives and bullets. At least one person was shot in the head and several were injured.

According to the Association for Assistance to Political Prisoners, the number of those killed from the first day of the coup (February 1, 2021) until yesterday, has risen to 765.
