Seoul says Pyongyang could do more nuclear tests
Seoul’s Defence Minister said this in a letter to the government. An expert warned that the warning could be the fruit of work by South Korean Intelligence.

Seoul (AsiaNews) – South Korea “should prepare for another nuclear test” that Pyongyang “may undertake in the near future in view of the resumption of six-party talks on nuclear disarmament slated for 19 December in Beijing”.

This is the belief of Kim Jang-soon, Seoul’s Defence Minister, stated in a letter sent to the government.

In the letter, he said “our armed forces need to prepare themselves for the possibility of another nuclear test by Kim Jong-il. Disarmament talks will probably be stalled or else North Korea will threaten another bomb to get more concessions.”

Nam Sung-wook, an expert at Seoul University, said the minister was “gauging the situation from a purely military perspective, but there could be intelligence pointing to unusual movements in the North.”
