Manila, an ‘Oratio Imperata’ for the next government’s good behaviour

Card Tagle has called for a special novena to be recited at every Mass in the Archdiocese for the future of the country’s new political leaders. The new administration takes over this Thursday. “No one or group can claim that they were able to solve everything,” Tagle said.

Manila (AsiaNews/CBCP) – A special prayer is being prayed during Masses in the Manila archdiocese for government officials before the country changes its leadership.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila has issued an “oratio imperata” for government officials and will be recited nine days before the assumption into office of the country’s newly elected leaders.

In a circular to the archdiocese’s priests, chaplains, superiors of religious communities and Catholic schools, he said the oratio imperata “is to be prayed at the prayer of the faithful of all masses” from June 21 to 29.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle called on new officials to live up to the trust they received from the electorate.

The Manila archbishop on Friday said the incoming administration and other newly-elected leaders must set an example in improving ways in serving the people.

“I hope that the next or those who will inherit (the government administration) will also strive (to address the country’s problems),” Cardinal Tagle said.

Asked of his assessment on the administration of outgoing President Benigno Aquino III, the cardinal said there is no perfect government anywhere around the world.

He said that like the previous administrations, the Aquino government have many accomplishments but there are also things that still needs to be addressed.

“All administrations may have strived and worked hard but all administrations as well left things that still need to be addressed. That’s life!” he added,

“No one or group can claim that they were able to solve everything,” said Tagle.
