In February, the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan called for early elections, like in 2011. Thanks to a 2011constitutional amendment, presidential elections can be held before their fixed date. Officially, it is because of the country's economic crisis and Russian nationalism. Unofficially, it is to keep the current office holder in power.
