Islam and blasphemy: the Koran does not prescribe violence for those who offend Muhammad
The well-known Indian Islamic intellectual explains that the Muslim holy book does not condemn those who insult the prophet or uses abusive language against him. Reflecting on verses of the Koran, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan recalls that Muhammad himself was reprimanded as a "liar", "possessed", "foolish", but nowhere in the text does he invite the faithful to avenge wrongs.
