PIME missionary: Hindu and Muslim lepers made Swarga Dwar’s crib
Fr Carlo Torriani has been in India since 1969 helping lepers. In 1984, he founded a dispensary in Taloja, near Mumbai, which welcomes leprosy patients and their children. Eventually, this led to an ashram, a place of meditation for Indians, called Swarga Dwar or ‘Heavenly Gate’, a place where people of different religions live side by side, happy to be together at Christmas.
