The head of the Centre for the Development of Women in Torpa, who represented India at the international meeting currently underway in Bangkok, talked about the status of women in rural India, home to 70 per cent of the country’s population. “[M]ale domination arising from the ideology of patriarchal society and female subjugation internalised by women has to give way to a new relationship of complementarity and equality.”
