Local Communist authorities continue to hound Christians, trying to get them to go back to their ancestral religions. When they refuse they are deprived of economic assistance. Still entire families prefer a life of hardships rather than recant, saying that they are “proud” of being Catholic.

The authorities have banned all religious events in the city because “there are no religious followers” in town. In reality Catholics are around three thousands. A priest who tried to say Mass in 2004 was arrested on the spot but people stood their ground in front of the prison where he was jailed.
