The toxins of the Israel-Palestine conflict in a region caught between a desire for freedom, a clash over religion and a struggle for power continue to be felt. The dreams of the young people who gave rise to the Arab spring are fading. Islamist parties and the power struggle between Saudi Arabia and Iran and Sunnis and Shias now prevail with Syria as a case in point.
