In the world's most populous Muslim country, celebrations for 'Idul Fitri' begin today. Millions of faithful have hit the country's roads, railway stations and bus terminals to travel back to their ancestral towns and villages. High alert is in place in Central Sulawesi province.

National police said the murderers of Reverend Kongkoli could be linked to a terrorist group already suspected of beheading Christian girls in 2005. This group is connected to Jemaah Islamiyah.

Reverend Kongkoli was shot dead this morning in Palu when a bullet struck the nape of his neck. Tensions remain high in the province of Central Sulawesi after the execution of three Catholics in September. The local governor said he believes the murder is linked to the execution but that it was not down to "hostility" between Christians and Muslims.

Tensions are rising in the Indonesian province of central Sulawesi following the execution of three Catholic men. Bombs are thrown at churches and schools, a Christian man is stabbed and the local police chief is attacked. For some analysts, the "same provocateurs [of 2000] are now playing their games again".

A group of residents of Pamona, central Sulawesi, attacked General Haiti when he went to visit a police station there. Many Christians in the area hold him responsible for the execution by firing squad of three Catholics in Palu.

The trio's relatives point to wounds to the bodies that cannot be attributed to the execution by firing squad. They demand a second autopsy. Relatives' lawyers are setting off for Europe and the United States to present their case before international law agencies.

The dead men's attorneys charge Indonesian authorities with judicial murder and pledge to bring the case to the International Criminal Court. For them, Jakarta is guilty of an act of injustice and human rights violation.

The authorities handed over da Silva's body to his relatives. It was washed and placed in a new coffin to be taken to St Mary's Church in Palu. The attorney-general insists, however, on denying permission for da Silva's body to be taken to his native village, where everything is ready for his burial. The relatives of Tibo and Riwu refuse to submit to the ban on a funeral service for the three executed men.

The execution by firing squad of three Catholic men in Palu sparked protest in various parts of Indonesia. In predominantly Catholic Nusa Tenggara Timur province order has been restored. Tibo's son says father asked for forgiveness, not vengeance. Requiem mass is held in Palu without the bodies.

Prosecutor's Office in Palu denies Tibo and his fellow prisoners the right to attend mass before their execution by firing squad. It also denies them the right to have a chapel of rest in the city's cathedral as requested.

First reports suggest the three were executed at Palu's airport. The news is met with grief by the families and all those who were taking part in prayer vigils. In Central Timor people are protesting; demonstrators peacefully take over the Prosecutor's Office.

Tibo's son had this message to give after meeting his father for the last time: "Thus, those who want to kill us will be satisfied." The three Indonesians will be executed just after midnight tonight, without ever having received an answer from President Susilo about their second request for clemency.
