Domani Fabianus Tibo will be unjustly executed by firing squad together with his friends da Silva and Riwu. The three men had confession and celebrated the Eucharist. They expressed their last wishes. Some say they execution won't take place. Demonstrations and prayers are being held across the entire country.

Protests are under way in the province of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and in Jakarta. Christian leaders and government officials are backing the three men, whose lawyers have warned: this execution will not be legal unless the president voices his decision about a second appeal for clemency.

After many delays, the authorities of central Sulawsi have fixed the date and place for the execution of Tibo and his two friends. Their families have reiterated their opposition to the "unjust" penalty and say the judges have proved to be "blind and deaf" when faced with new evidence in favour of the three men.

On Saturday night, a bomb created panic among residents. No one was injured; the only result of the attack was fear. Local people say extremists "want to re-ignite inter-religious hatred".

Police and regional and national leaders say the three men should collaborate with the justice authorities to clarify the reasons behind the conflict.

Masses for victims are being held in parishes across central Java; many people from Jakarta are trying to reach relatives in quake-hit zones, desperately seeking rail or bus tickets. Survivors will spend the night out of doors, without electricity.

From prison, Tibo and his friends, whose execution now seems to be a foregone conclusion, are calling for the "moral support of all Catholics in the country". The three convicts have met their relatives.

Alleged terrorists in detention admit their role in the murder of three young women last year in Poso. Police is still looking for the mastermind.

Indonesia's Supreme Court rejects second appeal. As prescribed by law, Tibo, da Silva and Riwu, charged for the sectarian violence in Poso, are in isolation three days before their appointment with the firing squad.

Police believe the men are members of Jemaah Islamiyah and connected to Noordin Top, Indonesia's most wanted terrorist. Two of the men were involved in the murder of a Protestant female pastor in Palu in 2004.

Radio Suara Gratia broadcasts a programme for Christian communities in Cirebon. Local Islamic groups claim this is proselytism and say the radio should stop its transmissions.
