The cemetery is the initiative of Catholic volunteers, who have remained anonymous for security reasons. They celebrate the sacredness of life and struggle against the culture of death spreading in Vietnam through individualism and consumerism. Similar cemeteries have been set up in Pleiku and Ho Chi Minh City.
They live in guesthouses, barely able to survive on their wages. They don't have the means to go back to their home towns and Christians don't even manage to go to church on Sundays.
The church was set up in a village of fishermen, who all live in floating houses. Every Sunday, a Vietnamese priest celebrates Mass in Cambodian and they are often visited by western missionaries. But the problem of language remains.
The plea is going around the country and demands from the government more democracy and respect for human rights. Catholic workers face a difficult situation.
