According to the annual report on persecution against the group, 248 Ahmadis were murdered last year, with another 323 victims of attempted murder. Scores of their places of worship have either been seized or illegally disposed. Many of their tombs have been desecrated. Since 1974, Ahmadis have been treated as “non-Muslims” and a government ordinance bans them from using Islamic greetings and prayers, or to refer to their places of worship as mosques.

At Jinnah Hospital in Lahore 65 people, including 13 children, are hospitalized in serious condition wounded in the Park attack on Easter Sunday. Kajal is 17 years old and has three serious fractures and four stiches in her right eye: She will never see again and will have difficulty walking, her mother says, "but at least she is here with us". Taj, a 24 year old electrician: "After the explosion they even stole my phone."

For many families the rites are increasingly similar to those of Muslims during Ramadan, including an Iftar. A catechist admits: "The faithful follow the habits of people around them." Bishop of Faisalabad: There is a lot of confusion, Christian fasting "requires simplicity and inner humility".

According to early reports, this morning’s explosion in the centre of Peshawar was caused by an 8-kg improvised explosive device. So far, 16 people are dead and 30 wounded. Prime Minister Sharif slams the terror attack. "Peace for us is limited to short intervals between bombings,” Anglican minister says.

On 15 March 2015, a group of Taliban carried out two suicide bombings, killing 14 people and injuring more than 70. A survivor remembers the first attack, which sounded like the explosion of “a gas cylinder." Today 40 volunteers defend the St John Church. For Islamist leader, “Christians deserve credit for not turning the attacks into a sectarian issue".

The provincial assembly is cracking down on violence against women. Under new legislation, husbands can be punished for their violence. However, the law has not yet been enacted. For a Catholic mother, “husbands will have to be more careful because neighbours can call the police.” For a Muslim widow, the law “can only make matters worse. Our in-laws never forget.”
