The new road was inaugurated on the day of the canonization of the founder of the Missionaries of Charity. The chief minister paid homage to her and recalled that she "chose India as her home, to serve the poor and the afflicted." Msgr. Barwa: "She was the woman of the woman."

The road will be inaugurated on September 4, the day of the canonization of Mother. The ceremony will be a public function. The Missionaries of Charity operate in 11 homes located throughout the state. The initiative acquires more value because Orissa is the State where the massacres were perpetrated against Christians in 2008.

For Fr. Frederick D'Souza the nun who will be canonized next September 4, has transformed the experience of the Church. The diaconate is not only service, but sacrifice and gift of self.

The nun was raped and beaten during the anti-Christian pogrom of 2008. At the funeral of the archbishop of Cuttack-Bhubaneshwar Sr Meena message sent a of gratitude for the support she received.

The funeral was held in the Church of the Sacred Heart in the presence of thousands of faithful. After communion, Mgr John Barwa talked about his predecessor, calling him a “dynamic leader, who gave 42 years of life to serve us, the lost, the least and the last. [. . .] Thank you Archbishop Cheenath for All you have done for Orissa.”

He died in Mumbai and not in Orissa because he had received death threats. He led the Church during the Kandhamal pogroms and fought for the rights of victims and survivors.

Rules discriminating against Christian and Muslims were adopted on 10 August 1950.
