China through the eyes of Italian students

A survey promoted by the Fondazione Intercultura found that 45 per cent of teenagers are interested in a period of study in China. It also gathered the impressions of those who have already done so, suggesting a positive view of relationships and culture, and excellent professional benefits. Yet, there is also a greater awareness of the country as it really is, beyond the myth of its technological prowess.

    The world's economic crisis and overcapacity have hit the once-prosperous industry. This year, only 182 ships are under construction compared to 2,036 in 2007. Jiangsu province is the worst-hit with a 62 per cent drop in orders.

  • Beijing residents' wrath at flood in city without sewers
