Angelus

Leo XIV reiterated the call to pray the Rosary in October, following the example of children. Meeting marking the 10th anniversary of *Amoris laetitia* with the heads of the Eastern Churches: “Identifying ways to proclaim the Gospel to families and young people”. 800th anniversary of St Francis: “Building harmony among peoples”.

Pope Leo XIV’s visit in France continues. Yesterday, he prayed at the Grotto of Massabielle, and today he celebrated Mass before 150,000 faithful, urging them to “leave as missionaries of hope.” At the Marian shrine, “no one is turned away due to their frailty.” During the Angelus, he issued an appeal, to pray the Rosary "with the particular intention that wars may cease”.

Leo XIV at the Angelus: when the ‘law of love’ puts an end to self-interest, humanity gains ‘joy, wisdom and a future’. God’s plans are ‘more human’ than those of men and women. Addressing a crowd of 15,000, Leo XIV also marked the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, offering prayers “for those who continue to bear the wounds of that tragic day.” He also called for renewing “the commitment to peace." Speaking about today’s Gospel, he said that giving freely is the “best rule for our life together.” Forgiveness “sets us free and restores the light.”

At the Angelus, Leo XIV remembered the ‘innocent’ victims of the Russian attacks. He expressed solidarity with the people who ‘have been living in anguish and fear for years’. His appeal: ‘May negotiations bear concrete fruit’. Commentary on the Gospel: “Transform problems and conflicts into opportunities for growth”.

At the Angelus, Leo XIV called for prayers “for the injured and the missing, for their families, and for the rescue workers”. He urged “everyone’s concern” to support the populations brought to their knees. An appeal was made for the forgotten Haiti and for peace. On the Gospel: Jesus’ message “goes beyond all expectations”.

Commenting on the question “Who do you say that I am?”, taken from today’s liturgy, the Pope also urged the Church to ask itself this question frequently so as not to become entrenched in its own habits. Appeal for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is ravaged by Ebola.

At the Angelus, the pope issued his appeal, along with a reminder of the urgency of the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. Speaking about the Gospel passage dedicated to the Canaanite woman, Leo noted that the Church should allow herself to be surprised by God's work, even when it “disrupt[s] our plans”.

From Castel Gandolfo, the pontiff spoke about the suffering in the Holy Land, "Land of Mary”, and among the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, “united by their filial devotion to the Holy Mother of God”, and the Christians suffering discrimination and persecution. In his homily at the Mass celebrated in the local parish, he stated that, “true beauty” is endless love.  

The pontiff also made an appeal about the tragic situation in Sudan, urging action to bring a ceasefire and open up humanitarian corridors for el-Obeid. “War only begets more war,” he lamented. People have “To experience their own weakness and, within it, recognize God’s presence,” he said at the Angelus.

Speaking in Spanish to the faithful gathered for the Angelus, the pontiff expressed concern about the migrant crisis in the enclave on the border with Morocco. Before the prayer, he reflected on Jesus' miracles, who “is doing more than merely performing miraculous deeds; he is proclaiming to all that the Kingdom of God is near.”

At the Angelus Leo XIV expresses “concern” over rising violence in Gaza and the West Bank. Call for “negotiations”, rejecting “military actions and unilateral decisions”.
