Angelus

Commenting on the question “Who do you say that I am?”, taken from today’s liturgy, the Pope also urged the Church to ask itself this question frequently so as not to become entrenched in its own habits. Appeal for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which is ravaged by Ebola.

At the Angelus, the pope issued his appeal, along with a reminder of the urgency of the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine. Speaking about the Gospel passage dedicated to the Canaanite woman, Leo noted that the Church should allow herself to be surprised by God's work, even when it “disrupt[s] our plans”.

From Castel Gandolfo, the pontiff spoke about the suffering in the Holy Land, "Land of Mary”, and among the Ukrainian and Russian peoples, “united by their filial devotion to the Holy Mother of God”, and the Christians suffering discrimination and persecution. In his homily at the Mass celebrated in the local parish, he stated that, “true beauty” is endless love.  

The pontiff also made an appeal about the tragic situation in Sudan, urging action to bring a ceasefire and open up humanitarian corridors for el-Obeid. “War only begets more war,” he lamented. People have “To experience their own weakness and, within it, recognize God’s presence,” he said at the Angelus.

Speaking in Spanish to the faithful gathered for the Angelus, the pontiff expressed concern about the migrant crisis in the enclave on the border with Morocco. Before the prayer, he reflected on Jesus' miracles, who “is doing more than merely performing miraculous deeds; he is proclaiming to all that the Kingdom of God is near.”

At the Angelus Leo XIV expresses “concern” over rising violence in Gaza and the West Bank. Call for “negotiations”, rejecting “military actions and unilateral decisions”. The example of the Maronite Elia Hoayek (1843–1931), beatified yesterday in Lebanon. Grandparents’ and Seniors’ Day: “Ensure care and support”.

During the Angelus, Leo XIV turned to the "countries torn by war" and the people “suffering and dying because of these conflicts”. He urged “generous efforts for peace” and “constant prayers”. Speaking about the Gospel, he said that the kingdom of God requires patience to accompany “these processes”.

The Pontiff’s appeal during the Angelus in response to fresh reports of violence and death from the Middle East and Ukraine. On Sea Sunday, thoughts turned to seafarers and fishermen, who are often caught up in conflicts. Commenting on the parable of the sower: “God’s generosity is not naive, but wise”.

Leo XIV thanked the participants in the Caravan of Peace: “Never be violent”. The pontiff's “pain” for Ukraine: the continuing hostilities “distance a just and lasting peace”. “Closeness” to people suffering from leprosy, on the day commemorating them. Comment on the Gospel: “We Christians must overcome the temptation to close ourselves off”.

Pope remembers the faithfl departed at the Angelus on all Souls Day. In the afternoon, Leo XIV visited the Verano cemetery in Rome: “Spiritually, I will also visit the graves of my loved ones”. Appeal against the massacres in the city of El Fasher in Sudan: ‘Unacceptable suffering for an already exhausted population: ceasefire and relief through humanitarian corridors’.

At the Angelus, Leo XIV encouraged people to nourish the "spark of hope” ignited by the Gaza agreement. His also turned his thoughts to those who have lost loved ones. “We ask God, who is the true Peace of humanity, to heal all wounds” with the power of forgiveness. He expressed closeness to the people of Ukraine, still under Russian attacks, and to the people of Peru. On the Jubilee of Marian Spirituality, the pope urges the faithful to “share in the joy of the Magnificat” and warns against “forms of worship” that “do not foster communion with others” but “can num our hearts”.

At the Angelus, the pope called for an "immediate ceasefire" and a "serious commitment to dialogue" for peace in Ukraine. He remembered the victims of the shooting in Minnesota and expressed sorrow for the deaths of more than 60 migrants off the coast of Mauritania. In his Gospel commentary, he expressed hope that “the Church will always be a school of humility for everyone, a home where all are always welcome”.
