Polish cleric to head Pontifical Missionary Works

Vatican City (AsiaNews/CWN) - Father Henryk Hoser, a Polish Pallotine missionary, has been appointed by Pope John Paul II as president of the Pontifical Missionary Works; he will also assume the rank of an archbishop.

Born in Warsaw in 1942, Archbishop-elect Hoser entered the Pallotines in 1969, and was ordained in 1974. He served for years as a missionary in Rwanda, then as regional superior for his religious congregation. Most recently he has been the rector of the Pallotine missionary center in Brussels.

The Pontifical Missionary Works were instituted to promote cooperation among missionary endeavors, under the direction of the Congregation for Evangelization-- of which the archbishop-elect will be an adjunction secretary.
