A new report by the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council details 257 incidents of sectarian violence, with 44 people killed in the first six months of 2026. Two years on from the change of government in the summer of 2024, there has been an increase in attacks on places of worship, acts of vandalism and attempts to seize land belonging to religious organisations.

After serving an 18-month sentence for the “public sale of religious books”, the former head of Zhejiang’s large Catholic community was welcomed by hundreds of the faithful. Pakistan's Supreme Court has overturned the last convictions for one of the most serious incidents of religiously motivated violence in Lahore. The Christian couple was shot to death in 2014 in the brick kiln where they worked. For lawyer Shawaiz Javed, the fight for justice continues.

A convent where a chapel and cemetery are under constructions was the object of an intimidatory raid. Although Catholic nuns have all the necessary permits issued by the previous state government, Hindu extremists are demanding the immediate demolition of both chapel and cemetery. With the BJP's victory in the state elections, attacks and intimidation against Christians are up.

In Baldia Town, the intervention of religious leaders, students and the police protected a Christian family at the centre of (as yet unproven) allegations of desecrating the Qur’an. Respect for the investigation was called for, and Friday sermons emphasised religious brotherhood. The Justice and Peace Commission told AsiaNews: “An important gesture”.
