Rome (AsiaNews) The Pope was admitted last night to Rome's Policlinico Gemelli. He was taken there at about 10:30 p.m. for treatment of an acute case of laryngeal tracheitis and laryngeal spasms. He underwent a CAT scan in the night. Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro Valls said the Pope is "not in intensive care". Yesterday afternoon, the Vatican had said that his condition was not allarming: he had not had any fever since Sunday evening, when the flu symptoms had started to appear.During Sunday's Angelus, the Holy Father did not appear in good physical conditions because of a bad case of the flu that made his breathing difficult.
A bad cough and phlegm have continued to affect his breathing.A first medical bulletin is scheduled for release this morning at 9 o'clock.
The Holy See has cancelled all the Pope's meetings and audiences.
