Tripoli ( AsiaNews / Agencies) - Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan (see photo) was abducted at dawn this morning by a group of armed men. According to various sources , the group is made up of former rebels , linked to the Ministry of the Interior and kidnapped the premier at the hotel Corinthia, where he lives . The groups would be Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room and the Crime Combating Committee.
The reasons for the kidnapping are not yet know. Two days ago in a television interview Ali Zeidan complained that his country is becoming a very important basis for arms trafficking in Africa. A month ago, visiting Britain , he sought the help of London to free Libya from weapons , suspecting that they are smuggled into Syria .
The kidnapping comes a few days after the operation of a commando of U.S. Marines , who captured Abu Anas al -Libi , a personality linked to al Qaeda and transferred him onto a U.S. warship . Al- Libi is accused of being among the perpetrators of the attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 .
The seizure of al-Libi provoked a storm of criticism against the Libyan government, especially by groups of former rebels who fought for the fall of Muammar Gaddafi and are now enrolled ( and paid for ) in the Ministry of Interior and Defense.
