Bishkek (AsiaNews / Agencies) - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 has struck the Ferghana valley in Central Asia. The area covers the south-west of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan to the east.
The quake struck in the middle of the night, around 1 .35 (local time), shaking the region located about 400 km from the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek.
So far there are reports of a few damaged buildings but no victims. As the quake struck, the valley's population rushed from their homes and slept in the open.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey Office the epicenter is located at 42 km south-west of Fergana (Uzbekistan), a city with 200 thousand inhabitants, and 9.2 km deep (see photo).

People left their homes for fear and spent the night outside. So far, there are no victims.
