Billy goat cloned in Inner Mongolia for mass cashmere production

A genetically modified goat has bred kids to improve quality and production of cashmere wool.

Beijing (AsiaNews/Agencies) – The world’s first cloned billy goat has fathered more than a dozen kids in northern China over the past week, with several more on the way.

The breeding firm, Zhongke Zhengbiao Biotech Company, is based in Bayannur, Inner Mongolia.

The billy goat was genetically-engineered to produce finer and softer wool. It mated with naturally-born females. The kids produced were all in a healthy and stable condition.

For the firm, this proves that cloned animals can breed and lead to improved quality and production of cashmere.
