Hong Kong (AsiaNews/SCMP) Hong Kong's Democratic Party vice-president, Albert Ho Chun-yan, yesterday received a death threat along with a cutter blade.
The MP, who is also a lawyer, received the missive hours after being discharged from Queen Mary hospital where he was treated after an attack on 20 August at a fast-food restaurant in Queen's Road Central.
The message, written in Chinese, said: "You didn't die after all that. You are lucky. You won't be as lucky next time. Watch your step." Ho described the threat as a grave challenge to Hong Kong's rule of law and said: "This incident shows utter disregard for the law and law-enforcement agents. I believe the police will resolve the case as soon as possible."
The MP would not speculate on who sent the letter. He said: "The letter has made specific reference to the recent attack. Maybe someone is trying to use it to inflict more fear on me. They could be the same people but they could be others too."
After the attack, newspapers in the Territory stressed Ho's commitment against the local mafia. The lawyer said he wanted to return to work as soon as possible "not to succumb to those who use violence as a form of intimidation."
