Ho Chi Minh City (AsiaNews) – The Vietnamese government has allocated US$ 200,000 to help Japanese quake victims cope with the disaster.
Hanoi and Tokyo have close ties, which include youth exchange. Young Vietnamese have benefited from studying in Japan, gaining new knowledge and skills to help build their own nation.
Currently, some 3,300 Vietnamese are in Japan for study. Some 300 men and women religious from Vietnam are also involved in missionary work in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Vietnam’s ambassador in Tokyo, Nguyễn Phú Bình, met Japanese officials for emergency talks. He confirmed that no Vietnamese is among the victims.
The Vietnamese Youth and Students Association (VYSA) is sending a group of volunteers to Sendai to determine the situation of Vietnamese students living in the northeastern provinces of Japan.
The association has called on students’ parents to send them information about the latter via their website, at www.vysajp.org.
