Seoul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - If the Trump administration does not cease to meddle in inter-Korean affairs, North Korea is ready to carry out "terrifying" actions during the November presidential elections in the United States, warned the director of the American Affairs Department in Pyongyang’s Foreign Ministry. However, Kwon Jong-gun did not give any further details.
In his threat, the senior North Korean official refers to Washington's disappointment at North Korea's decision to end military and diplomatic communications with the South on June 9th. The measure is a retaliation for the launch into North Korean territory of defamatory flyers by dissidents sheltered in the South. The pamphlets are flown across the border using balloons.
For US President Donald Trump, the freezing of tensions on the Korean peninsula has so far been a success to be used in the upcoming elections. The White House tenant met twice (in 2018 and 2019) with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. From then on, Pyongyang no longer carried out nuclear tests and limited missile tests. However, the two sides have not reached an agreement for further negotiations, with the North Koreans calling for the immediate cancellation of international sanctions against them, and the US that binds this decision to the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
