Seoul ( AsiaNews) - Sharing the "common roots" of the Christian faith, contributing to the social evangelization of Korea and facing the challenges of the mission together. With these objectives, the Catholic Church and 10 other Christian denominations, decided to create a new organization, the " Commission on Faith and Order of Korean Churches", which will meet at least once a month to promote ecumenical dialogue and tackle common challenges together .
The signatories of the agreement, signed May 22 last in Seoul, are: Catholic Church in Korea, the Orthodox Church in Korea, the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK), the Presbyterian Church of Korea, General Assembly of Presbyterian Church, the Korean Methodist Church, the Anglican Church of Korea, the Salvation Army of Korea Territory, Korea Evangelical Church, the Korea Assemblies of God, Lutheran Church of Korea. By mutual agreement it has been established that the Catholics and the National Council of Churches will govern the working group and convene the meetings.
The Bishops' Conference of Korea explains that the purpose of this new Commission is to keep contacts alive by studying, working and praying together. Mutual dialogue , says a report issued today , "will play a primary role in our relationship, to help Christians to share the common roots of our faith and face the the tasks imposed by Christian mission".
