Taipei ( AsiaNews) - A television show chronicling the life of immigrants to Taiwan and help people understand customs and traditions of distant peoples . This is the aim of the project launched by the University Shih Hsin : 35 documentaries, filmed by as many immigrant students , which will be broadcast by a public television channel in the cities of Taipei and New Taipei.

The initiative was launched by university professors who have encouraged students to film moments of privacy over the summer. Longtai Chen (陈 隆泰) , a student of Vietnamese mother , said he was " very happy to show the differences and similarities of my family life to that of my peers ."

Lingxing (玲 星) , his classmate , adds: "We also had the opportunity to learn how to make quality films with the help of experts, and this will help us in our activities and perhaps also for our future professions " .

The families of the students come from Thailand, Indonesia, South Korea, Poland , Vietnam and Mainland China. The filmed moments mostly involve preparing meals with the typical dishes of each country , the stories told to children by their parents and the typical songs sung mostly by mothers , such as lullabies to lull the children to sleep.

One family consists of a Thai mother, Taiwanese father and five children , the eldest of which is in his first year of college : "For me it was a challenge in the beginning to film my little brothers , but then I enjoyed it a lot and also my parents have appreciated being able to share something so interesting which can be a typical day of a young family with young children . To do a good job but I had to film for two months, because when I went to edited it I thought the material was never good enough . "

Students with parents from mainland China instead are mainly attracted by the family traditions of their Taiwanese classmates: in two episodes show the preparation of a typical Amis dinner and history of the banana rice ( glutinous rice combined with pieces of banana) in the tribes Truku .

For teachers, authors of the project , this can be an effective way to raise awareness of the different traditions . Professor Hu Lingjen (湖 玲 仁) states as the main theme of the series is " dreams " and as in any family , " there are treasures of traditions which, if made known , can enrich mutual understanding and sharing of ideals and projects by of young students .
