Aden (AsiaNews/Agencies) - A UN ship with food supplies arrived yesterday in the port of Aden for the first time since the conflict broke out last March.
The port had been inaccessible until now because of the air raids of the coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the fights of the Houthi rebel militias.
Another aid ship from the United Arab Emirates – which are also part of the coalition – docked in Aden later in the day.
The UN says at least 80% of the population of Yemen - 25 million people - are in need of humanitarian aid.
Thanks to the Saudi bombings, the city has been "liberated" by the Houthi rebels. These have begun fighting accusing the government of President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi of corruption, and of planning to marginalise the Houthi tribe, mostly Shiite.
Since last March, the conflict has already made more than 3500 victims, half of them civilians.
