Gulf countries in joint effort against terrorism

Gulf Cooperation Council interior ministers agree to joint support for regional and international efforts to combat the problem, voice support for Iraq and appeal to international community on behalf of Palestinians.


Riyadh (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Persian Gulf countries have decided to unify their efforts against the growing threat of terrorism, including in their region.

In a meeting chaired by Saudi Interior Minister, Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) interior ministers concluded their 8th consultative meeting reiterating their rejection of all forms and manifestations of terrorism and voicing their support for regional and international efforts to combat this problem.

The ministers voiced their concern at the deterioration of security in Iraq and reaffirmed their support for Iraq to help it overcome its present ordeal and restore its sovereignty and independence.

On Palestine, the ministers denounced Israel’s ceaseless “atrocities” against the Palestinians. They lauded the efforts of the Saudi King which culminated in the Makkah accord, and urged the world community to help alleviate the sufferings of the Palestinian people.
