Petra (AsiaNews/Agencies) - Offering support to student research in Jordan, Palestine, and Israel, and also favouring collaboration among scholars. These are the objectives set at the conclusion of their meeting by the 29 Nobel Prize winners who for two days met in Petra, in Jordan.
The meeting, which saw the presence of King Abdullah II of Jordan, was attended by, among others, Israeli president Shimon Peres, the Dalai Lama, and the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa (in the photo).
In order to promote student research and investigations, the Nobel laureates dedicated 10 million dollars to the Middle East Science Fund. The fund, says a statement released yesterday evening at the end of the meeting of the Nobel Prize winners who make up the advisory board, "will also facilitate cooperation and collaboration among scientists from universities around the region". Its objective, "the Middle East's most pressing development challenges: energy, water management, the environment, health and technology".
