Jerusalem (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The trial for fraud and abuse of office against former Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman, has shook public opinion in the State of Isreaele. The first hearing took place yesterday, the next will be April 25. Until now the leader of the Yisrael Beytenu (far right party) has rejected all accusations and refuses to talk to reporters.

Lieberman resigned from his ministerial post in the Netanyahu government on December 15, 2012, but he is still a member of the Knesset (Israeli Parliament). According to the Attorney General Yehuda Weinstei, the Conservative leader fostered the career of the former Israeli ambassador to Belarus, Zeev Ben Aryeh. The latter reportedly informed Lieberman of Israeli court dossiers of investigations into the trafficking of money between the former minister and various European businessmen, including the Austrian Martin Schlaff and Russian-Israeli Mikhail Chernoy.
