Islamic Development Bank: the Arab-Muslim economic ‘engine’
An economic and financial system operates in Jeddah which, whilst bringing together 57 countries, does not rely on large-scale globalised flows. At the end of September, it approved loans totalling 938 million dollars for Uzbekistan, Tunisia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Syria and Kyrgyzstan. Beyond the recycling of petrodollars, this is a complex and evolving mechanism.
