Fliers given out near mosques calling on people to take part in anti-Pope demonstration

Anadolu news agency reports Benedict XVI sent € 10,000 to flood victims.

Ankara (AsiaNews) – All throughout Turkey, fliers were handed out today, Friday day of prayer, near mosques calling on people to participate in an anti-Pope rally organised by the Saadet (Felicity) Party under the slogan "The Pope shouldn't come", the Turkish national news agency Anadolu reported today.

The agency also reported that the Pope's visit will inject courage into the Christian minority present in the country and that the visit is meant to give strength to Christians and raise their spirits.

It also noted that the Turkish Catholic Bishops Council (through Caritas), especially the Vicar to Anatolia Luigi Padovese, donated € 10,000 (US$ 12,000) on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI to flood victims in Batman and Iskenderun where heavy rains caused great damage and wreacked havoc at the beginning of November.
