Moscow (AsiaNews / Agencies) - The President of the Caucasian Republic of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, was seriously injured this morning in a car bombing. News reports cited Russian officials, according to whom the attack occurred at 8.30am local time and involved three or four bodyguards of the President, among them the head of state’s brother, Ouvais.
A spokesman for the president’s office cited by Interfax, said that the president has undergone surgery, but "according to information we have, his life is not in danger." Reports are still confused: some sources confirmed the attack, which took place in the city of Nazran, targeting a funeral procession, but deny that there have been other injuries.
It is the third attack to take place in the small country, which is an autonomous republic of the Russian Federation, in the last three weeks, the fourth in the North Caucasus.
