Kabul (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Five children were killed and ten more injured by a powerful blast yesterday during a cricket match in Qala-i-Qazi, in the eastern Afghan province of Ghazni, this according to Mohammad Ali Ahmadi, deputy governor of Ghazni.
The bomb explosive materials were placed in a bicycle, which detonated as children were playing. The victims were transported to the hospital in Ghazni city with six in critical condition.
Following the explosion, local residents took to the streets. They also took the dead bodies to the governor’s house in Ghazni City, calling on the government to investigate the incident and arrest the culprits.
The Taliban are still active in the area. According to official UN figures, 2014 was the worst year in terms of civilian casualties with 3,699 people killed and 6,849 injured.
