Kabul (AsiaNews/Agencies) Clementina Cantoni, an Italian female aid worker for Care International, was abducted in Kabul around 11-11:30 pm (GMT + 04:30) Monday night.
She was forced from her car by four armed men as her car drove through Shahr-e-Nawnon neighbourhood. With her were her Afghan driver and another Westerner, probably a Briton, who were able to escape.
Ms Cantoni has been working in Afghanistan for the Kabul Widow Humanitarian Assistance (KWHA), an organisation set up in 1996 to assist some 10,000 widows in some of Kabul's districts.
One of its main purposes is to improve the nutrition level of the widows and their children providing them with flower, oil and iodised salt.
KWHA officials also run distribution points that provided Afghan women with information on nutrition, hygiene and health prevention.
