Pope: April 27, 2014 John Paul II and Pope Roncalli will be proclaimed saints

The day chosen by Francis is that of Divine Mercy Sunday, a feast inaugurated by Pope Wojtyla.

Vatican City (AsiaNews) - John XXIII and John Paul II will be proclaimed saints April 27, 2014, the Feast of Divine Mercy. This was established by Pope Francis this morning during a consistory.

The choice of date is significant, the Feast of Divine Mercy was commissioned by John Paul II and he also dedicated the encyclical "Dives in Misericordia" in 1980 to Divine Mercy. Established in 2000, it is celebrated on the first Sunday after Easter.

Moreover, John Paul II died in the Vatican April 2, 2005, at 21:37, as Saturday drew to a close, the day before Divine Mercy Sunday.
