Pope prays for his predecessors

On the day when the Church celebrates the commemoration of all the faithful departed, Francis went down into the Vatican Grottoes , where most of the popes are buried.

Vatican City ( AsiaNews) - This evening Pope Francis went down into the Vatican Grottoes to preside over a prayer for his predecessors.

It was a "strictly private " prayer, on the day when the Church celebrates the commemoration of all the faithful departed.

On Monday April 1 last, Pope Francis visited in the Vatican Grottoes and paid tribute to the tombs of the Popes of the last century to be found there: Benedict XV, Pius XI , Pius XII, Paul VI, John Paul I. The act of homage concluded with a visit of devotion to St Peter's tomb in the necropolis that lies beneath the Vatican Basilica.

Yesterday, Francis went to the Roman Verano cemetery  and celebrated a Mass for the dead , with a special thought for those who "died at sea, as they sought a better life ."
