Kabul (AsiaNews / Agencies) - A group of Taliban has seized nine Turkish citizens in the town of Azra (Logar district) south of Kabul. The hostages, all belonging to a major Turkish industrial company, were travelling by helicopter from the city of Khost (eastern Afghanistan) to Kabul, but were forced to make an emergency landing due to a technical problem.
According to authorities the incident occurred last night, but news of the kidnapping only broke this morning when the police went to the landing site, finding the aircraft empty.
Located about 100 km from the capital, the District of Logar is under the control of the Taliban Islamic militia. The International Security Assistance Force is managing the search, but so far there have been no developments. A spokesman has emphasized, however, that the group of abductees has nothing to do with military operations.
