An initiative launched by a lay member of the Catholic Diocese of Rajshahi. She also stresses that Catholic families are experiencing a crisis: "Too little time spent together and adolescents too taken up by the new technologies and social networks."

Dhaka (AsiaNews) - "Praying the Rosary together every day" can help respond to the problems facing Bangladeshi families today, including Catholic families, according to Dipty Gomes, a 55 year old housewife, from the Catholic parish of Bonpara (Diocese of Rajshahi). Interviewed by AsiaNews, the woman recalled that in the past the missionary of the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions (PIME) - present in its area - taught local families the importance of praying the rosary.

Nowadays however, the woman notes, "families are experiencing a crisis. Many women spend all evening watching soap operas on TV, while the husbands go out to see friends. Many come back drunk and this can cause quarrels". Even the poor quality of time spent together, says Dipty Gomes creates problems: "If you do not dedicate time to your wife and to your children, they will make the wrong choices. Instead, it is always important to try to understand one another, reserving special moments for husband, wife and their children".

She also expressed concern for adolescents and young people. "Many - she observes - do not want to obey their parents, they want to appear smarter than they are, but this can cause them to make mistakes". According Dipty Gomes, this happens because of globalization and misuse of modern technology and social networking sites like Facebook.

"If instead we sat down every night - she adds - to recite the rosary together and share our sorrows and our joys, 95% of our problems will no longer affect the family."
