Kathmandu ( AsiaNews) - Nepal and India are set to close the 1,700 kilometer border that separates them, in order to ensure maximum security for the elections November 19th in Kathmandu. The block will be in place from 5 am on November 17, until the close of voting. In the three days, no citizen can cross the border.
The decision comes after a series of attacks in Nepal, carried out by groups of radical Maoists against the elections. Offices and agencies which provide basic services such as water suppliers, airports and hospitals will observe only two days of blockade, 19 and 20 November .
To further ensure safety, the Parliament has declared a four-day public holiday from 17 November.
For the moment, the border between Nepal and China will not be closed, but will be subject to maximum surveillance .
