Hyderabad (AsiaNews/Agencies) – Police in Cyberabad, Hyderabad’s hi-tech district, have arrested a person in connection with one of the largest data thefts ever recorded in India.
Vinay Bhardwaj is accused of stealing, holding and selling data from 669 million accounts of people and organisations.
He was found in possession of data from students enrolled in Indian educational technology companies like Byjus and Vedantu, as well as customers of popular services such as Amazon, Netflix and YouTube, major e-commerce portals, social media platforms and fintech companies.
Police seized two mobile phones and two laptops with stolen data in 135 categories containing sensitive information from governments, private organisations and individuals.
The accused operated through a website from Haryana and sold his databases to customers through cloud drive links.
