Mumbai (AsiaNews) - Karnataka's Christian community is regularly and systematically targeted, this according to Fr S.D. Joseph, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Mysore. He spoke following the latest anti-Christian attack in the state where, since the start of 2012, some 40 incidents of anti-Christian violence have been reported.
Last Sunday, vandals set fire to the cars owned by two Catholics, Winston Philip, from Vijayanagar, and Anand Pinto, from Mahadeswaranagar.
The perpetrators of the deed are still at large, but "it is clear that Christians were the targets," Father Joseph said. "The authorities must increase their vigilance and identify the culprits with further delay."
With regards to the anti-Christian attacks in Karnataka, Sajan George, president of the Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC), noted that "Article 21 of the constitution guarantees the right to life and liberty,"
More significantly, "the Supreme Court of India recently ruled that the expression 'life' does not connote merely a physical or animal existence. The right to life includes the right to a life with human dignity," he explained. (NC)
