Bhubaneswar (AsiaNews) – A resident of the village of Bada Raksi (Sundergarh District, Orissa) killed Rev Jiban Masi Munda. The 70-year-old Anglican clergyman was reading the Bible on the veranda of his home when he was hit by a deadly arrow. The incident occurred on Sunday, but the news was made public only today.
Armed with bow and arrows, Manamasi Tappo, 35, burst into the priest’s home. After carrying out his attack, he fled the scene. However, alerted by the cries of the dying man, who succumbed soon after, local villagers went after the assassin. Once they caught up with him, they tied him to a tree and beat him to death.
The next day, residents took the two bodies to the K. Balang police station where they told the officers in charge that the murderer was probably insane and that he committed suicide. However, autopsy reports are not yet available.
Meanwhile, the police is continuing its investigation.
